Being of Service

Become A Hospice Volunteer

Hospice volunteers, like hospice employees, have a diverse background of talents and skills. Some have provided hospice care for their loved ones and want to give back to others. Others have great compassion and a strong desire to be of service to others.

Suppose you, or someone you know, are interested in joining our volunteer program. In that case, we will work with you to review the various volunteer opportunities available and assist you through the training process. As a new volunteer, you will undergo the same application process as Hospice Associates’ employees, including an interview, a background check, and mandatory drug testing. In addition, every volunteer receives hospice orientation and training in areas of hospice mission, confidentiality, working with families, listening skills, and awareness of the signs of approaching death. Hospice volunteers also receive training on bereavement support to help family members better deal with the loss and grief they experience.

If you are interested in learning more about volunteer opportunities in hospice care and reside in the Greater New Orleans area, please call us at (504) 457-2200, or send us an email. We will contact you promptly to answer your questions.
